It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Fujiko Hemming (legal name: Georgy Hemming Ingrid Fujiko; first name
also written as Fuzjko) at dawn on April 21, at the age of 92. Last year, the artist was active with performances and planning for a return to Carnegie Hall in New York this spring. However, her plans
were interrupted by a fall last November while at home in Tokyo. Just in the way she approached her music with unfailing dedication and passion, she also took on her rehabilitation therapy, so that she could return to the stage as early as possible. However, this March she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and though she started
treatment for it, her condition worsened in the early hours of April 21. As per Fujiko Hemming's wishes, her diagnosis and funeral service plans were kept private. She departed this world with a serene and
graceful countenance. We deeply regret any worry this silence may have caused her fans and the organizers eagerly anticipating her performances. Even amidst her hospitalization, she found joy and solace in playing the
piano. While our hearts ache with the void left by her absence, we trust the
memory of her soul-stirring performances will live on. We humbly request your understanding and refrain from sending floral tributes at this time. Plans for a Fujiko Hemming Memorial are
underway, and we will soon share further details. To all our cherished fans, collaborators, organizers, media partners, healthcare professionals, and supporters, we extend our deepest gratitude. Your unwavering support has been a source of strength
during this challenging time.
With heartfelt appreciation,
The Fujiko Hemming Foundation,May 2 2024
