Authorities in Thailand say they have taken a 16-year-old Japanese boy into protective custody. They believe he was forced to work in a scam center across the border in Myanmar. Police say they received the boy this month in the western city of Mae Sot. They say he's a resident of Japan and they had been searching for him at the request of Japanese authorities. The police say he was handed over after being spotted at a scam center in eastern Myanmar. They believe the boy is a victim of human trafficking, possibly subjected to violence and intimidation and forced to commit crimes. Many other foreigners have been forced to work in Myanmar's scam hubs. Thai authorities also took a 17-year-old Japanese national into custody in January.
